From towering red sandstone formations and spectacular mountain summits to historic towns and scenic hiking trails, discover some of Colorado Springs’ most memorable experiences.
Colorado Springs is an excellent destination for visitors who enjoy nature, outdoor adventures and beautiful mountain scenery.
The city is surrounded by spectacular landscapes, while its historic neighbourhoods and cultural attractions provide plenty of opportunities for sightseeing.
Here are some experiences I would recommend including in your itinerary.
Explore Garden of the Gods
Garden of the Gods is one of the most impressive natural attractions in Colorado.
Its enormous red sandstone formations create a dramatic contrast against the surrounding mountains.
Explore the park’s walking trails, enjoy the scenic viewpoints or take a guided tour to learn more about its geology.
Admission to the public park is free.
Visit Pikes Peak
Pikes Peak rises to an elevation of more than 14,000 feet above sea level.
Visitors can reach the summit via the Pikes Peak Highway or the historic Cog Railway.
The views are spectacular, but remember that temperatures at the summit can be considerably colder than in Colorado Springs.
Discover Manitou Springs
Located just west of Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs is a charming mountain town known for its historic buildings, mineral springs and independent shops.
It is also the starting point for several popular outdoor adventures.
The nearby Manitou Incline is a particularly demanding hiking route with a steep ascent.
Visit the United States Air Force Academy
The United States Air Force Academy is located north of Colorado Springs.
Its visitor attractions introduce guests to the academy’s history, traditions and educational mission.
Access to the grounds is subject to security requirements and visitor restrictions.
Explore the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is located on a mountainside overlooking Colorado Springs.
The zoo offers wildlife exhibits, educational experiences and beautiful views across the surrounding landscape.
It is a particularly enjoyable attraction for families.
Discover Seven Falls
Seven Falls is a spectacular series of waterfalls located in a scenic canyon near Colorado Springs.
Visitors can explore the surrounding area and enjoy views of the waterfalls from designated walking routes and viewing platforms.
My advice is to spend one day exploring Garden of the Gods and Manitou Springs, then dedicate another day to Pikes Peak and the surrounding mountain scenery.
